Practice Owner/Veterinarian

  • Dr. Michael Overend

Dr. Michael Overend grew up in the Minneapolis suburb of St. Louis Park.  His family were avid pet owners and had a large number of cats, dogs, a horse and even fostered a young raccoon over the years.  His father Thomas was an avid freshwater tropical fish breeder and went through episodes of beekeeping as well.  Mike developed an interest in veterinary medicine after reading the immensely popular stories of English veterinarian James Herriot in his early college years.
He worked for a veterinarian in Edina, Minnesota for 18 months to gain experience with veterinary care and he then committed to becoming a member of a profession that has been a wonderful career for him ever since.  Mike received his BS in Biology at the University of Minnesota in 1979 and received his DVM from the University of Minnesota in 1983.  He practiced in Milwaukee, WI  and Edina, MN before enrolling in a graduate program in pharmacology at the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985 and by 1987 decided that private practice was his true calling.   Mike's area of special interest in practice is veterinary dentistry.  He was introduced to advanced veterinary dentistry in 1991, and with the mentorship of local human dentist Dr. Paul Trygstad, and veterinary dental specialists Dr. Gary Goldstein of St. Paul, MN and Dr. Dale Kressin of Oshkosh, WI., he has developed his skills and knowledge for providing his patients with advanced dental care.  Recent advances in veterinary dental care allow him to successfully treat common painful conditions that affect many pets.
