  • Dr. Michael Overend

    Practice Owner / Veterinarian
Dr. Michael Overend grew up in the Minneapolis suburb of St. Louis Park. His family were avid pet owners and had a large number of cats, dogs, a horse and even fostered a young raccoon over the years. His father Thomas was an avid freshwater tropical fish breeder and went through episodes of beekeeping as well. Mike developed an interest in veterinary medicine after reading the immensely popular stories of English veterinarian James Herriot in his early college years.

He worked for a veterinarian in Edina, Minnesota for 18 months to gain experience with veterinary care and he then committed to becoming a member of a profession that has been a wonderful career for him ever since. Mike received his BS in Biology at the University of Minnesota in 1979 and received his DVM from the University of Minnesota in 1983. He practiced in Milwaukee, WI and Edina, MN before enrolling in a graduate program in pharmacology at the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985 and by 1987 decided that private practice was his true calling. Mike's area of special interest in practice is veterinary dentistry. He was introduced to advanced veterinary dentistry in 1991, and with the mentorship of local human dentist Dr. Paul Trygstad, and veterinary dental specialists Dr. Gary Goldstein of St. Paul, MN and Dr. Dale Kressin of Oshkosh, WI., he has developed his skills and knowledge for providing his patients with advanced dental care. Recent advances in veterinary dental care allow him to successfully treat common painful conditions that affect many pets.
  • Dr. Lucy Grina

Dr. Lucy Grina was born in Rochester, Minnesota and grew up loving the outdoors. She developed a true love for Northern Minnesota after her teenage experiences at Camp Widjiwagan. She realized at an early age that she wanted to be a veterinarian and pursued this as her life passion. She developed hands-on experience working with animals by working long hard hours at a horse stable near Iowa City as well as working for various veterinarians that did both large and small animal practice. She received her BS in Zoology from the University of Iowa in 1978, worked in research in the Neurology Department at the Mayo Clinic for 2 years, and achieved her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Minnesota in 1986. Lucy practiced in a mixed animal practice in Cloquet, MN for 1 year before coming to Two Harbors.

"I am excited to join the veterinary team headed by Dr. Overend and Dr. Grina at Lake County. As a Duluth native, I was lucky to have my introduction to the animal care field start by spending time at this great clinic.

I obtained my degree from the University Of Minnesota which was followed by positions in Ames (Iowa), St. Paul and most recently Cloquet .

I am dedicated to the health of your pet whether that is preventative care or emergency medicine. In my free time, I can be found outdoors enjoying all that our great region has to offer."
